The idea came to Tom on a walk in Central Park. Why not use the most beautiful spaces that are open to everyone? Start with a great location, add a design and a plan that can scale, offer it online, and far more people could afford an event done properly.

Travel had already solved the hard part of that problem. Booking a trip means one search and one price, because the systems behind the travel industry connect transportation, hospitality, availability, pricing and reservations in one place. Events had nothing like it. Planning a wedding still means a dozen vendors, a dozen contracts and a planner to hold it together. Tom took the question to the companies that built those travel systems, then set out to build the equivalent for events.

One system, from the first idea to the last guest

Happenings is a software platform that pairs locations, services and management in a single process. It lets an organization turn what it offers into clear packages a customer can book, then coordinates the people who deliver them. It serves two purposes: software other organizations can use to power their own offerings, and the foundation for Happenings’ own consumer products.

ParkWed, the proving ground

The first of those products is ParkWed, which gives couples a wedding in some of America’s great city parks. The ceremony, the reception and everything in between are handled by one team, for a fraction of what a planner would cost. Paid ParkWed productions, involving thousands of couples, guests and service providers, have supplied the practical knowledge used to build and refine the platform, with Tom’s production team delivering every event along the way.

More products are in development, each built on the same platform and each designed to bring a level of event once reserved for a few within reach of many more.
